The spiral is one of my favorite symbols, it was also the first pattern I put on my body 11 years ago.
The spiral is a symbol of eternal life, self-fulfillment, movement, Nature and Cosmic forces. This form builds galaxies, vortices, snail shells, fern shoots.
The spiral also leads us to the exit. In 2010, I was on the shamanic island of Olkhon, where I participated in a ritual led by a Buryat shaman. I noticed that there is a spiral on his drum among other symbols, I asked him what it meant. He told me a story about the beginning of the world. It was the spiral that was the first form to emerge from the chaos, restoring order. Order happens through spirals.
Reading the “Tibetan Book of the Dead”, I discovered that this vortex is the moment of being reborn and exiting the bardo zone. So the story of the shaman found its confirmation also in other legends.
