Location
In a temporary location at the Poptahof neighbourhood in Delft, The Netherlands, foundation id11 realized the project FLAT_land. Over a period of time, artists took possession of apartments and houses which were slated for demolition. The participating artists made work related to this unique location. Izabela Ołdak took possession of apartment 140 and made the work Reminiscence.
Reminiscence
Izabela created an intimate, bright red salt-painting on the concrete floor of the former living room of the abandonment apartment. A beautiful organic painting based on Izabela’s dreams, symbols and her daily life experience. The viewer is seduced by the attractive organic pattern which invites you to come closer, but does not allow that without you destroying it. Vulnerability is even more emphasized by the contrast of the fragile pattern on a concrete base. The strong sense of colour and the endless pattern engage you on an emotional level. A soft sound in the background brings you back to daily life. It’s the sound of a family gathering; eating, talking which reminds you of the place where you are. It not only makes you think of the mysterious family who used to live here, but also reminiscent me of childhood memories.
